Our History
Founded in 2020, the DC Officiating Camp was created to provide officials in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area an opportunity to experience tier 2 junior hockey while receiving coaching from officials with junior, collegiate, and professional hockey experience. In the 5 years of the DC Officiating Camp’s existence, it has become the premier ice hockey officiating camp for officials attempting to enter tier 2 junior hockey and the USA Hockey Advanced Officiating Development Program. With the partnership between the North American Hockey League, the Maryland Black Bears, and the DC Officiating Camp, we have placed at least 50% of the officials in the North American Hockey League family of leagues over the past two seasons. Starting in 2025, the DC Officiating Camp has expanded and rebranded to Capitol Steel Officiating Camps, including the flagship, DC Officiating Camp, entering its sixth season, and the brand-new Steel City Officiating Camp. Steel City Officiating Camp is in its inaugural season, partnering with the Youngstown Phantoms and the United States Hockey League to provide officials the opportunity to receive coaching from collegiate, professional, and international level officials and have a chance to showcase their skills in front of league representatives from both the USHL and NAHL as well as listen to guest speakers from various NCAA Division 1 conferences and professional hockey leagues.
