Ryan Siegel 

Founder & Camp Director

Ryan Siegel is a highly accomplished and experienced hockey referee, known for his expertise across various levels of the sport. As the founder and camp director of Capitol Steel Officiating Camps, Ryan has dedicated much of his career to developing and mentoring aspiring officials. His journey in officiating began with a strong foundation in the sport, and he has worked tirelessly to improve his skills through advanced training and exposure to high-level competitions.

In 2018, Ryan joined the prestigious Advanced Officiating Development Program, a pivotal moment in his career. Since then, he has consistently achieved success on the ice, including being selected to officiate high-profile events such as the 2022 North American Hockey League (NAHL) Top Prospects Tournament, the 2022 and 2023 NAHL Robertson Cup Championships, and the 2024 United States Hockey League (USHL) Clark Cup Finals. His extensive experience also includes the 2024 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament, as well as appearances at the NHL Officials Exposure Combine and the USA Hockey Officiating Program of Merit in 2024.

In April 2024, Ryan was hired as an official in the ECHL, further solidifying his reputation as a top-tier referee. He also officiates in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and the Hockey East Association, two premier men’s NCAA Division I hockey conferences. Ryan’s deep understanding of the game, combined with his experience across a wide range of leagues and competitions, makes him an invaluable resource to both players and fellow officials alike.

As the director of Capitol Steel Officiating Camps, Ryan Siegel shares his wealth of knowledge and passion for the sport with the next generation of hockey referees, ensuring that the future of officiating continues to thrive under his guidance.

Shane Kanaly

Assistant Director of Development

Shane Kanaly is an accomplished and highly respected figure in the world of hockey officiating, serving as the Assistant Director of Development for Capitol Steel Officiating Camps. With a career spanning multiple prestigious leagues and international events, Shane has developed a reputation for excellence both on and off the ice.

Shane spent seven seasons in the ECHL, where he worked several key playoff games, including the 2024 Kelly Cup Division Semifinals and the 2023 Kelly Cup Division Finals. His ECHL experience is complemented by a significant role in college hockey, where he serves as a linesman for the Hockey East Association. Over the years, he has officiated at numerous high-profile events, including the 2024 Hockey East Tournament Quarterfinals, the 2024 Cactus Cup, and the 2023 Frozen Fenway, further solidifying his reputation as a top-tier official at the collegiate level.

In addition to his work in Hockey East, Shane has gained valuable experience in Atlantic Hockey America, where he was part of the crew that officiated the 2022 NCAA Men’s Division 1 Frozen Four in Boston, MA—one of the most prestigious events in college hockey. His international officiating experience is equally impressive, having represented the United States as a linesman at the 2025 FISU World University Winter Games in Torino, Italy, and the 2024 Under 18 Five Nations Tournament.

Shane’s dedication to his craft has earned him recognition within the officiating community. He was selected for the 2022 NHL Officiating Exposure Combine and the 2023 USA Hockey Elite Officiating Experience, two prestigious programs that identify and develop top officials. Additionally, he earned his International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) "C" license, placing him among a select group of U.S. officials who have the privilege of representing America on the world stage.

As Assistant Director of Development at Capitol Steel Officiating Camps, Shane plays a crucial role in mentoring and developing the next generation of officials. His extensive experience and success at every level of hockey make him an invaluable asset to the camp and to the broader officiating community

Tyler Loftus

Assistant Director of Sponsorship

and Activation

Tyler Loftus is a highly experienced and versatile hockey official, currently serving as the Assistant Director of Sponsorships and Activation for Capitol Steel Officiating Camps. With a career that spans both referee and linesman roles, Tyler has achieved significant success at every level of the game and brings a wealth of knowledge to the officiating community.

Tyler currently officiates NCAA Division I men’s hockey, working with the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC). He was part of the officiating crew for the 2024 ECAC Tournament’s first round, further establishing himself as a key figure in college hockey officiating. At the NCAA Division III level, Tyler has officiated multiple high-profile events, including the 2022 NCAA Division III Men’s Hockey Tournament, the 2019, 2020, and 2021 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Championship Games, and the 2022 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Championship Game—showcasing his expertise and versatility across different levels of the sport.

In addition to his referee work, Tyler has excelled as a linesman, having worked at some of the highest levels of professional hockey. He currently serves as a linesman in the American Hockey League (AHL) and has also worked games in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and the ECHL, earning a reputation for his precision and reliability on the lines.

A graduate of the USA Hockey Advanced Officiating Development Program and a 2016 attendee of the USA Hockey Officiating Program of Merit, Tyler’s extensive training and experience have made him a sought-after mentor in the officiating community. For nearly five years, Tyler has instructed at USA Hockey Futures and High-Performance Camps, where he has helped develop young officials with a focus on both on-ice skills and the important classroom knowledge necessary for officiating success.

As Assistant Director of Sponsorships and Activation at Capitol Steel Officiating Camps, Tyler plays an integral role in building relationships and creating opportunities for the camp and its participants. His well-rounded experience, from grassroots officiating to high-level games in professional leagues, makes him an invaluable asset to both Capitol Steel and the broader hockey officiating community.
